The Google led Android project released the first version of its software developer kit (SDK) this week. It also released a few videos that highlight some of the features of the platform. The videos show the Android platform running on both touchscreen and non-touchscreen devices, and also show a number of glossy UI features that look very much like they came from an Apple iPhone.
Among the things you'll notice in the videos, two of which you'll find below, are that received messages and other notices can be navigated to at the top of the home screen and accessed, SMS messages are threaded in an IM chat session type application, and that the platform supports some rather nice looking OpenGL powered 3D capabilities. This 3D power even allows for Quake to be run on Android devices, something that they briefly demo in the video. Google also shows the Google Maps application in use and shows off the integrated Street View functionality.
